 Summer 2022!

Alamander is a child-centered and inclusive summer program. We value play, community, and creativity and encourage all children to follow their interests and be themselves.

Each week-long session is focused around a theme that allows for varied entry points, allowing all campers to engage, have fun and find success in collaboration. Activities and projects are arts based with room for campers to explore their ideas and interests. We also spend a lot of time playing group games in the park, building with legos and magnatiles, discovering the magic of perler beads, and relaxing with books.

Alamander is dedicated to building a community of acceptance and kindness. We prioritize the inclusion and celebration of kids of all backgrounds through the books we read, the language we use, our approach to conflict resolution, and our commitment to achieve a ratio of 25% of our campers tuition being subsidized. Session Themes

Each week is centered around a theme that guides the projects we do, books we read and the games we play. These themes support our goal of helping campers feel safe, heard and encouraged to be themselves. The activities provide structure to the day, engage children’s interests and skills, allow for exploration and create a shared experience for our mixed age community. Plus they are a lot of (sometimes messy) fun!

Session 1

August 1st to 5th: Tiny Worlds

This week, campers will have the opportunity to create a tiny version of their dream world. We’ll build fairy homes on the playground, make a collaborative cardboard city, fashion puppets from found materials, and use legos and magna-tiles to design our ideal home.

Session 2

August 8th to 12th: Toy Museum

This week campers will design and build toys to display at our toy museum on Friday. We’ll make stuffies, miniature cars, finger puppets, recycled robots and whatever else campers dream up.

Session 3

August 15th to 19th: Art Lab

This week, campers will experiment with the different materials to create works of art. Some activities your art scientists can expect: painting with bubbles, printing with legos, and collaging with objects found on nature walks. This week will include lots of exploration and sensory play.

Session 4

August 22nd to 26th: Cardboard Creations

This week, campers will use cardboard to build very small and very large structures. We’ll make collages, houses, beads, tunnels, bridges and much more! Save all your cardboard tubes and we will make sure to put them to excellent use!

Session 5

August 29th to September 2nd: Costume Design

This week, campers will create costumes from fabric, cardboard, gems, paint, and repurposed goods. We’ll become superheroes and animals, create elaborate hats, and have a costume fashion show on the last day of camp.
